Hearts at Home conference

Bluestem 1-Day Parenting Workshop
Bluestem’s Approach to Parenting – Achieving Success With Relationships and Without Shame: The Basics. A variety of parenting options and strategies will be explored. Successful parenting involves more than rewards and consequences; it is about regulation and relationships. The way family members relate to each other is critical. Our approach is based on understanding the science of behavior, self-regulation and relationship dynamics. Parents and caregivers will learn how to foster family harmony and to be nurturing and effective when dealing with challenging behaviors.

The workshop features four modules:The Science of Behavior; Emotional Regulation; Nurturing Positive Relationships; Dealing with Challenging Behaviors.

Course Option 1. Four - 90 minute evening sessions, one session per week for four weeks. Monday, October 20, 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 27, 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 3, 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 10, 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Course Option 2. One – six hour Saturday session. Saturday, November 8, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. One hour allowed for lunch - on your own.

COST. One parent - $80.00, to be paid prior to class. Both parents - $90.00, to be paid prior to class

Scouting for Food Drive

Last Saturday (Nov. 8) Scouts left Scouting for Food Drive door hangers on doors all over Rochester. If your door had a hanger remember to leave a bag of nonperishable food by your front door - the Scouts will pick it up on Saturday, Nov. 15. If you’re wondering what to donate, remember the most requested food items include boxed dinners (i.e. Hamburger Helper), canned tuna, peanut butter, cereal, canned fruit, pasta and rice. Didn’t get a door hanger? Your family can still participate. Drop off food at Channel One or at a Channel One drop site (visit their Web site for a list of sites).

• Raptor Feeding – November 8 at 3:00 p.m. Spend an autumn afternoon learning more about some of our area’s most common birds of prey. Not only will you enjoy hearing interesting facts, but you’ll also enjoy watching them eat. (All ages)

• Feed the Otters – November 15 at 1:00 p.m. This is always a good time! Otters are very curious and playful and they can eat up to a quarter of their body weight a day. Come and watch as the otters swim around to catch the fish! (All ages)

• Wild Turkeys – November 22 at 1:00 p.m. This bird is on almost everyone’s mind this time of year! Come to Oxbow and learn more about these fascinating creatures and their links to our nation’s past. (All ages)

• Feed the Critters – November 29 at 3:00 p.m. This is one of our most popular programs. Join the animals for dinner and see just how crazy feeding time can sometimes get. You’ll remember the experience. (All ages)

Annual Ageless Art Benefit - Aldrich Memorial Nursery School
Aldrich Memorial Nursery School will be hosting their Annual Ageless Art Benefit! All proceeds from this event supports the Aldrich Endowment Fund. The event is on Saturday, November 8 from 7-10pm. Their will be on-site artists selling their own art, as well as Silent and Live Auctions, with special guest Gil Gutknecht and KROC Personality Tracy McCray. Tickets for the event are $18.00 per person. They may be purchased in advance or at the door. If you would like to purchase the tickets in advance please stop by the school between 8:30am - 4:00pm, Monday thru Friday.
