Saturday, May 1st: Opening Day, Rochester Downtown Farmers Market. Located at 4th St SE, across from the Super America, the outdoor market runs every Saturday from 7:30 am - noon, through the last Saturday in October. Locally grown produce, meats, plants & flowers, baked goods, cheese, eggs, preserves, and specialty items from a host of neighboring farmers. Jaycee's Pitch, Hit & Run
Kids ages 7 to 14 will have the chance to show off their baseball and softball skills (pitching, hitting and running). Competitors have the opportunity to advance to sectionals, state (held at Target Field) and nationals (held at the 2010 All-Star Game in California). Free. Participants must show a copy of their birth certificate and complete a registration form (available online) prior to competing. Your child’s age as of July 17, 2010 determines the age division he or she will compete in. No metal spikes allowed. Watson Sports Complex, 1000 Essex Parkway, N.W. A Session for Parents with Korean Adoptees
Insights on Raising Your Korean-American Child presented by Mrs. Hyun Sook Han. May 1, 9:30-11:00am, Lourdes High School Auditorium. The Rochester Korean Center is pleased to welcome Mrs. Hyun Sook Han. She will be leading a discussion for parents on raising their Korean-American children. Mrs. Han has worked as a social worker for 12 years in South Korea before she moved to the U.S. where she worked as a social worker for the Minneapolis & St. Paul Children's Home Society of Minnesota for 29 ½ years. She currently serves on the Boards of MAKA (Minnesota Association of Korean-Americans) and the Children’s Home Society. She is also involved in her church’s Mission Trip to India to support and establish an international adoption system for local orphanages. This event is free to RKC families, and non-RKC families are welcome to attend for a fee ($5 pre-registration and $7 at the door).* If you would like to attend, please complete a registration form found in our website at www.rochesterkoreancenter.org. * A portion of the registration fee will be donated to Mrs. Han’s mission service to India.
