Relay for Life - Registrations Due!
RELAY FOR LIFE OF OLMSTED COUNTY. JULY 16 – 17. ROCHESTER COMMUNITY AND TECHNICAL COLLEGE – UNIVERSITY CAMPUS. Team Registrations Due June 1, 2010.

Join us for Relay For Life of Olmsted County, the signature event of the American Cancer Society, celebrating cancer survivors and honoring loved ones. It’s not a race; it’s not a run. It’s an all-night, family-friendly fundraising event that’s inspiring, exciting, and unforgettable.

Now is the time to pull your team together! The Kick-off Event is Thursday, April 22nd, from 4:30 – 7:30 pm, at Bethel Lutheran Church. Come join in the celebration of birthdays, see what Relay For Life is all about, and register to take part in this wonderful event. Registrations are due by Tuesday, June 1, 2010. Teams generally consist of 5 – 15 members, young and old, family, friends, coworkers, community groups. We all come together for a common cause – supporting cancer research, education, advocacy, and patient services. Cancer knows no bounds; neither do teams. We encourage youth teams, relatives, neighbors, colleagues – teams come in all shapes and sizes and all ages.

Relay will begin with a Survivors Reception on Friday, July 16. Opening Ceremonies will include a Victory Lap by survivors and caregivers, following which there will be activities for one and all. After the Parade of Teams, participants will enjoy musical entertainment, cancer education opportunities, games, inflatables, crafts, food vendors, silent auction, to name only a few, while teammates take turns walking the luminaria-lined track. Luminaria are dedicated to cancer survivors, as well as loved ones who’ve lost their courageous battle to cancer.

The luminaria light our way throughout the night, generating dedication, enthusiasm, and inspiration simultaneously. Teams camp out -- in tents, campers, and even under the stars. Some sleep, some don’t. Some choose not to camp, participating in the evening events only. As dawn breaks, we enjoy breakfast and closing ceremonies together, celebrating all that we’ve accomplished in the fight against cancer, reinforcing our goal of eradicating cancer in our lifetime. We are pleased to announce that Kristina Campbell has been named 2010 Honorary Chair of Relay For Life of Olmsted County. Kristina and others will share their stories during the event.

The American Cancer Society fights for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. As the nation’s largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing about $3.4 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, more than 11 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year. To learn more about the American Cancer Society, visit cancer.org, or call 1-800-227-2345.

Please join us in this great event! Grab your family, friends, and co-workers, put on your walking shoes, and come on out to the University Center on July 16. Team involvement is the basis of Relay, but individuals are also encouraged to register. Relay On-Line offers many useful resources and fundraising tools.
