Individual Education Plans (IEPs): What Parents and Families Need to Know
Thursday, September 30, 7:00-8:30 pm at SEMCIL, 2720 North Broadway. Too often, parents are unaware of all the options available to them through Special Education services. The process can be overwhelming, emotional, and frustrating -- but it doesn't have to be! This workshop will provide an overview of Special Education and the IEP including characteristics of appropriate goals, examples of common modifications, what to do when parents disagree with the school, and who can help. Useful strategies will be presented that can be used by all parents, whether or not they've been frustrated by the IEP process in the past! Immediately following the workshop, advocates will be available to answer individual questions. If you cannot attend the workshop, but would like information or individual advocacy assistance, please contact me at 507-349-8105 or lisahh@semcil.org.
