Here's a list of "camps"/dates to keep in mind as well as a number of listings,that while not "summer camps", are certainly fun things to do in Rochester this summer. Visit this page frequently, as we'll post more "camps" as we receive their information. (New info will be added to the top of this page so it's easy to identify it as "new.")


Art in the Barn
Everyone is an artist at heart and what better place to explore that than in our barn? Come learn about the elements of art through many interesting mediums in a peaceful setting near RCTC. Classes offered include print making with fish, make your own paper for journaling, collages on canvas, painting, flowers with pastels and silk dying. HEALING ADVENTURES CAMP
Healing Adventures Camp is a free one-day camp for children and teens (ages 5 - 18 years) who have experienced a loss of a loved one. The Mayo Hospice Program, with support from the Department of Chaplain Services and Mayo Eugenio Litta Children's Hospital, invite you to participate in the Fall - 2010 Healing Adventures Camp. Camp will be held Saturday, October 9, 2010, registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and camp will close at 4:00 p.m.

There are a variety of emotions and feelings when a young person experiences the death of an important person in his or her life. Campers will have the opportunity to spend time with other children who have had a similar experience and meet with trained grief facilitators who will encourage discussion on loss, grief, healing and new beginnings. Campers will be assigned to age-appropriate groups and will participate in a variety of activities, including: nature walks, crafts, rock wall climbing, music and petting zoo. SUMMER MEAL PROGRAM
Monday through Friday, Franklin, Gage and Riverside elementary schools and the Boys and Girls Club serve a free hot lunch to kids 18 and younger. The Summer Meal Program is open to all kids (including little brothers and sisters not yet in school) regardless of their family’s income or what school they’ll attend this fall. Also available to persons over 18 who participate in a public or nonprofit school program established for the mentally or physically handicapped. No lunch at Boys & Girls Club on Monday, July 5. No lunch at the schools on Friday, July 2 or Monday, July 5.

BASKETBALL CAMP
June 28 - July 2, 9:30- 11:30am. Kids 4 years old to 4th grade. Held at Zumbro Community Church (fifteen minutes outside of Rochester), 58354 County Road 7, Zumbro Falls. $15 per child (includes a t-shirt). OASIS CHURCH VBS

BOWLING @ COLONIAL LANES

4-H PROJECT IN THE PARK
Games, crafts and friendship are all part of this 4-H day camp experience. Designed for kids that have completed grades K through 3. $15 registration fee per participant per day camp. SWIMMING POOLS
Rochester’s two outdoor public pools, Silver Lake and Soldiers Field, open for the season, weather permitting, on Saturday, June 12. Daily admission is $3 for youth, $4 for adult. Or purchase 10 visits for $25 or a season long family pass for $75 (Silver Lake only). Silver Lake’s family pool is just $2 per day per family. SUNDAYS @ MAYOWOOD
Families are invited to pack a picnic and a blanket for Sundays at Mayowood -- 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.; June 13, June 27, July 11, July 18, July 25, Aug. 1, Aug. 8. In addition to exploring the grounds, families are invited to check out the Mayo children’s original playhouse and participate in a different family-friendly activity (petting zoo, nature walks, fairy houses) each Sunday. FREE FAMILY DAY @ CANTERBURY PARK
Each Sunday through August 29 at Canterbury Park in Shakopee is Pepsi Family Day. In addition to the excitement of horseracing, Canterbury offers free pony rides for the kids as well as a petting zoo and face painting. Canterbury also has a giant playground for the kids. General admission is free for everyone as Canterbury celebrates its 25th anniversary. Parking is also free. Racing begins at 1:30 pm each Sunday. www.canterburypark.com



SNAP BUS
The S.N.A.P. Bus, sponsored by Child Care Resource and Referral, offers free, fun summer activities. On the bus there are books available for the children to read with their parent(s) or with one of the SOS volunteers. The bus also carries paint and easels for those that would like to paint. There's lots of different craft supplies (glitter, popsicle stick, tissue paper, sequins, foam shapes) for those that like to glue stuff to paper to create their pictures. For the sports fan, there are balls on the bus, which can be used for a game of kick ball. The SOS volunteers are there to help get the game going and to guide them during their game. A caregiver must accompany children under 5 years of age. If the weather looks questionable, or if you'd like more information, call Natalie at 287-2009 Ext:259.

TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH VBS

CDT DANCE CAMP

MUSICAL THEATER CAMP. June 14-26, 2010: RCTC will again co-sponsor with Rochester Civic Theater a two week Musical Theater Camp on the University Center Campus, Hill Theater. Students entering grades 8-12 will be introduced to the magic of dance, music and the basic acting techniques. The two weeks will be spent learning these essential theatrical skills and rehearsing a short musical that will be performed for family, friends and the community on Saturday, June 26th. • June 14-17, 9am-11am - Recreation Camp. This camp is to help develop and learn skills. Students Entering Grades 1-6. Fee: $60.

• June 28-July 1, 9am- 11am - Girls Elite Camp This camp is for the skilled player that wants to improve. We will working on developing all aspects of playing. We will work on attacking, defending, shooting and mastering the ball. Entering Grades 6-12. Fee: $80

RCTC STEM SUMMER CAMPS. STEM Summer Camps will inspire students by showing them real-world, problem-solving applications as well as exposing them to fascinating technologies they may not have yet encountered. Two Camps will be offered: August 2-6, 2010 on the University Center Campus. Monday – Friday, 8 AM - 4 PM. For students in grades 3, 4, 5 in the 2009/2010 school year. Each Camp is limited to 60 students. $300 fee.



ALL COMERS TRACK MEETS
Grab your kids and their running shoes. The All Comer's Track Meets are held on select Tuesdays during the summer. Races start at 6pm and are held at Soldier's Field Memorial Park. (You can park in the pool/golf course parking lot.) Age-based, for-fun (everyone gets a ribbon) races are held for kids ages 2 through high school. Events range from 50 meters to the mile. SYAA
Stewartville Youth Athletic Association, www.stewartvillemn.com offers baseball, softball, and t-ball for kids currently in grades pre-K (kindergarten in fall of 2010) through 6. Games begin the week of June 14 and run through July 29 for softball and baseball (7 weeks). T-ball is 6 weeks. T-ball plays Monday nights. Baseball plays on Tuesday or Wednesday nights (TBD). Softball plays on Wednesday nights. $35. Registrations may be dropped off at Stewartville City Hall (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.) through April 30. Late registrations accepted only if space is available and with a $30 late fee.

QUARRY HILL NATURE CENTER GRANDPARENT/GRANDCHILD CAMPS
2010 Camp Grand: Nature Sleuthing! One of our most popular Camp Grand’s is back! This camp is designed for grandparents of children ages 4-8. The day will introduce grandparents and grandkids to all the best of Quarry Hill, plants and animals! They will have the chance to see live animals, take short hikes, collect animals in the field and pond, cook lunch over an open fire, make a keepsake craft and just plain have fun exploring nature! 2010 Camp Grand: Flying High Adventure! Join us for a “Flying High” adventure! This camp is designed for grandparents of children ages 6-10. At “Grandparent’s Flying High Adventure” kids and grandparents will explore our flying friends here in the park. During class we’ll head out with binoculars to see what birds are here in the park, we’ll also have a chance to net and trap birds to be banded and released. In the afternoon we’ll test out our bird instincts on the Survival Game trails. Later we’ll relax inside and have a chance to meet a real live owl and falcon and learn more about these fascinating birds of prey. For lunch we’ll cook over an open fire and at the end of the day have a keepsake photo to remember the day! Friday, August 27. DALE AMY BASKETBALL CAMPS
Dale Amy is back for his 19th year as basketball camp director and coach! He has directed and instructed over 60 basketball camps – over 3,000 boys and girls have graduated from his camps! He and his staff proudly teach basketball fundamentals to 4th through 9th grade boys and girls each summer in the awesome Regional Sports Center facility on the RCTC Campus.

Gloria Dei Lutheran Church (1212 Twelfth Ave NW) will hold its annual VBS (Vacation Bible School) from June 21st thru June 24th. The program is for 4 year olds thru 4th graders and is held from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm (preschool hours are 9:30 am to noon). You do not have to be a member of the church to attend. HONORS CHOIRS

HONORS CHOIRS 2010-2011 AUDITIONS. Be part of a choir with a reputation for excellence! Audition for our next season! The Honors Choirs of Southeast Minnesota is a regional non-profit organization of four choirs for grades 3-12. This year, our 18th season, over 230 singers came from 24 southeast Minnesota communities and 51 different schools to participate. It’s a unique opportunity for motivated singers to experience artistic challenge and growth as they prepare and perform great choral music. The choirs rehearse on Sunday afternoons/evenings throughout the school year in Rochester, and each one performs in at least four season concerts. In addition, choirs do outreach performances in the region. Singers pay tuition, and scholarships are available for those with need, including the Honors Choirs Diversity Scholarship for ethnic minority singers. B&N'S SUMMER READING PROGRAM
Open to kids grades kindergarten through 6th grade. Kids can pick up a free reading log at the B&N Apache Mall location which they will fill out (they must read at least 8 books) and return. Then they will be entered to win an autographed set of The 39 Clues. They will also be able to select a free book in the store (there are several titles to choose from, they are listed on the back of the reading logs) when they submit their completed reading log. HORSE CAMP @ THE STABLES EQUESTRIAN CENTER
Do you love horses? Then join us for fun and memorable experiences at our summer horse camp. 2010 Science, Engineering, & Technology Camp. Science, Engineering, and Technology Camp offers the fun of a day camp with an educational focus. Best of Basics with The Reading Center. July 12th-August 6th Grades: 4th-5th 10:30-11:30 a.m. - 4 days per week. Four week program that coincides with Y Day Camp enrollment. Join this full day program geared at summer fun and polishing up those language arts skills! Your child would participate in daily camp activities Monday-Friday from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. They would attend a one hour session four times per week with The Reading Center staff and work on: Phonological Awareness, Phonics, Word Attack Skills, Spelling Rules & Generalizations. This day camp works with weekly themes and allows for the participants to attend weekly field trips. The student must be a registered member of our day camp program to participate in this special pull-out group. The students would need to be available for the entire four week session to show improvement with their language arts skills. All programs (beside the field trips) are held at the Y. There is free extended care from 6:30 am - 6:00pm. A daily snack is included, but please have your camper bring their lunch. The registration fee does include a pre-screening for your child. 2010 Y-Tots Preschool Camps. Come experience the joy of learning in a safe, nurturing environment with Y-Tots this summer. The Y’s state licensed preschool program will host several summers camps this summer. Each week is centered around a theme, so your children can dive into creativity and celebrate each theme in an educational adventure at our preschool. CAMP KINGDOM KIDS
Camp Kingdom Kids is an active, nurturing Christian day camp staffed by certified teachers for children ages 3 – 12. School age campers have daily field trips and weekly themes. Tuesdays and Thursdays will be filled with hands-on science activities and outdoor games (AM for school age and PM for pre-k). Pre-K campers will go on a field trip each Wednesday and spend their days doing projects, crafts, experiments, and playing outdoors. ROCHESTER PUBLIC LIBRARY SUMMER READING PROGRAM
Kids of all ages are invited to participate in the Rochester Public Library’s Make a Splash @ your library summer reading program. Read for 12 hours (pre-readers may have an adult read to them), turn in a completed reading log, and receive prizes including a certificate for a free mini pizza from Papa Murphy’s. The RPL Children's Summer Reading logs will be available to pick up Friday, May 28. The program ends September 4. SEMCIL
SEMCIL and the Department of Employment and Economic Development have partnered together in a new grant initiative to provide transition services and independent living skills to transition aged students. These services will be provided in small groups and individually to students with a disability aged 16-21. SEMCIL is the Southeastern Minnesota Center for Independent Living (SEMCIL), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to assist persons with disabilities to live independently and to assist them to become fully participating members of their communities. Transition staff assists students and young adults to gain knowledge and the skills they need to live independently.

SEMCIL’s transition program includes a variety of summer courses designed to assist youth with disabilities. These courses are targeted for youth living in Olmsted, Winona, Fillmore, and Wabasha counties to increase their independent living skills and help them successfully transition from high school to adult life. All classes are held at the SEMCIL office at 2720 N. Broadway Rochester. HEALING ADVENTURES CAMP
Healing Adventures Camp is a free one-day camp for children and teens (ages 5 - 18 years) who have experienced a loss of a loved one. The Mayo Hospice Program, with support from the Department of Chaplain Services and Mayo Eugenio Litta Children's Hospital, invite you to participate in the Spring - 2010 Healing Adventures Camp. Camp will be held Saturday, May 15, 2010, beginning with registration at 8:00 a.m. and will close at 4:00 p.m. There are a variety of emotions and feelings when a young person experiences the death of an important person in his or her life. Campers will have the opportunity to spend time with other children who have had a similar experience and meet with trained grief facilitators who will encourage discussion on loss, grief, healing and new beginnings. Campers will be assigned to age-appropriate groups and will participate in a variety of activities, including: nature walks, crafts, rock wall climbing, music and petting zoo. ROCHESTER ART CENTER
Total Arts Day Camp, www.rochesterartcenter.org/education/tadc.html, is a unique and memorable experience for any young artist! Join artists and art instructors for an immersive contemporary art experience. Create art in groups and individually for traditional and experimental projects. Previous projects have included print making, life drawing, public art projects, environmental sculptures, photography, painting, stop-action animation, skateboard art, and more! The focus of the camp is to introduce creative problem-solving and technical skills while having fun making art. The last day of each session features a family and friends presentation of work and processes done by the artists.

QUARRY HILL SUMMER NATURE CAMP
Quarry Hill Summer Nature Camp is a must do summer activity for many Southeast Minnesota youth age 4 all the way up to high school! These camps get kids outdoors everyday to explore the wonders of nature that surround us. Hiking, fishing, canoeing, rock climbing, bird trapping, fossil hunting… and much more! All of our camp sessions are designed by Quarry Hill staff, feature small groups, and contain a great mix of learning and fun!

Camp sessions begin the week of June 14th and run through the week of August 16th. Our day camp runs Monday through Friday with classes from 9:00 am to 11:30 am and 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm. For older children, we have off-site and all-day options. Scholarships and transportation to Quarry Hill are also available.
