Aaahh summer! Soldier Field pool, Honkers Baseball, picnics at the park, RochesterFest. It's here! And there's always fun stuff to do! Here's a list of "camps"/dates to keep in mind as well as a number of listings, that while not "summer camps", are certainly fun things to do in Rochester this summer. Visit this page frequently, as we'll post more "camps" as we receive their information. (New info will be added to the top of this page so it's easy to identify it as "new.")



JETS GYMNASTICS

B&N'S SUMMER READING PROGRAM
Open to kids grades kindergarten through 6th grade. Kids can pick up a free reading log at the B&N Apache Mall location which they will fill out (they must read at least 8 books) and return. Then they will be entered to win an autographed copy of The Last Olympian (Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series #5). They will also be able to select a free book in the store (there are several titles to choose from, they are listed on the back of the reading logs) when they submit their completed reading log. SOCCER WORLD
Beat the heat this summer and join us for an awesome week of soccer! Soccer World will be hosting a 1/2 day Soccer Camp for individuals looking to start playing the game of soccer or for individuals who currently play and are looking to improve their skills. The students will be divided up into age appropriate groups. Grades 1-4 (upcoming 1st graders can register, and out-going 4th graders can register). 9am-11am (Early drop-off is available- please call). $60. July 6th- 10th (Monday-Friday). August 10th- 14th (Monday- Friday).

During the Turf Tyke Program kids ages 20 months - 5 years old will experience FUN and Excitement in a safe environment. Our coaches not only work on teaching children the basics of a variety of sports, but they also work on teaching good sportsmanship from cooperation, to listening skills. By participating in our program you can expect our coaches to center on the child making them feel special each time they walk through the door. Go online to check out all the offerings.



MUSIC THERAPY GROUPS
Jenny Kruse Music Therapy, LLC and Rochester Adaptive Park and Recreation offers four-week music therapy groups in June and August. The groups are for children aged 3-9 and will focus on both basic socialization skills and executive function training. We'll be working on skills such as social interactions with peers, making decisions, planning, and organizing, all while playing fun music games. Class size will be small, 4 or 5 students. CHINESE CAMP
The Rochester Chinese Dance & Culture Summer Camp offers Chinese Dance Classes by World Renowned Choreographer (Teng Lili), Chinese Zither/Guzheng Classes by Best Performer in Twin Cities (Li Yuxia) and Chinese Painting /Calligraphy/Paper-Cut Classes by a guest teacher. School age children are divided into separate age groups. SUMMER CAMPS @ ALLEGRO
• The Princess Studio, June 15-19, 9:30 - noon. Class I, ages 3-5. Class II, ages 6-above. $145. Sleeping Beauty, Pocahontas, Jasmine and Tinkerbelle are the inspiration for this workshop. After daily class, the star quality of each princess will be explored through music, dance, literature, and art projects. A “mini luncheon” will be served each day. All parents are invited to a soiree at 11:45 am on Friday, June 19 to observe their little princesses’ performance.

• Baton Twirling. M/W evenings. June 8-July 1 (8 classes). Class I, 5-8 yr olds, 5:15-6:00pm. Class II, 9 yrs and above, 6:00-6:45pm. June 29 classes I & II combined 5:15-6:45 pm. July 1– Class performance 6:30. $100. The lost art form of baton twirling comes to life at Allegro with Kathy Chase. Learn figure 8’s, horizontal twirls, marching and dance twirl skills. Wear a leotard, tight fitted shorts, no tights, dance shoes (if you have them) or cotton socks. You must order your baton at time of registration. The last class will be a performance at Homestead Senior Center.

• Native Dance from India June 16-July 28 Tuesdays, 11:00 am-noon (no class June 30). Ages 6-12. $100. Pratibha Verma will share the story and steps of a traditional modern folk dance from Uttar Pradesh of North India called “Chal Chhaiyya Chhaiyya” (Keep moving under the shade of love.) from the movie, “Dil Se”. In order for students to truly experience the art of Indian dance, Pratihba will provide from her personal collection of authentic costumes for students to borrow. A studio performance will be offered for family and friends on July 28 at 11:45 am.



ZUMBRO LUTHERAN VBS
Zumbro Lutheran Church’s theme for Vacation Bible School (VBS) this summer is Crocodile Dock! VBS is for youth entering preschool-5th grade. The “Dock” will be at Zumbro from June 22-26 from 9 a.m. - noon each day. Registration fee is $20 per child and includes a t-shirt and music CD. SPANISH CLASSES

CROSSINGS ART CENTER
• Crossings and Zumbrota's Covered Bridge Endowment Fund are organizing a June 2009 event, "Kids Draw!" The one-day event will be held June 13, 2:30-4pm. A plein air event, at the bridge, for grades 2-12. Kids, come and draw at Zumbrota’s Covered Bridge! Free guidance, instruction & judging will be given. All work is invited to exhibit the following weekend at Art in East Park. Prizes + 1 piece will be selected for publicity use for next year's festival and awarded $100 cash. $10 supply fee. RYSA/SOCCER
Rochester Youth Soccer Association is offering TWO different recreation summer camps. The first is a week-long morning camp that will take place in mid-June. • Summer Recreation Soccer Camp. June 15-19, 2009. 9:00 am - 10:30 am. Fuad Mansour Soccer Complex. Cost: $75. Ages: Grades 1 - 6. This fun-based soccer camp for children in grades 1-6 teaches and improves soccer skills using a series of enjoyable games. Emphasis is on developing and improving skills and team building. Goal is for the participants to improve their overall soccer abilities.

• 2009 Summer Evening Recreation Camp. August 3-6, 2009. 6:00 - 7:30 pm. Fuad Mansour Soccer Complex. Cost: $60. Ages: Grades 1 - 6. A SUMMER W/ SEUSS
In conjunction with its July production of "Seussical" (July 23 – 25 at Century High School), Words Players is offering A Summer Seuss Theatre Workshop for children ages 5 - 10. There will be three afternoons of acting, creating, and singing, with a focus on basic acting skills, vocal training, and interactions between characters. Students will work with actors from the SEUSSICAL production. July 13-15, 1pm – 3pm. Suggested donation: $60 (Includes class instruction, one student ticket to the July 23 opening night of Seussical, and a backstage pass after the show!). CHILDREN'S HOUSE OF ROCHESTER
The Children's House of Rochester focuses on the child's abilities and independence. The classroom will offer areas focused on language, mathematics, science, geography, art, sensorial and practical life. The Children's House of Rochester is a preschool/kindergarten that offers a quality montessori education for students ages 2.8-5 years of age. HEALTHFORCE MINNESOTA
HealthForce Minnesota hosts two summer camps, Health Career Day Camp and Scrubs Camp, for students entering middle and high school respectively. If your child is interested in exploring the medical field, these camps are great opportunities for them.

• Rochester Health Career Day Camp, organized by HealthForce Minnesota, offers middle school students (grades 6-8) from Southeastern Minnesota the opportunity to explore over 16 careers in the healthcare field. The camp will be held on June 10-12, 2009 from 9-4 p.m. at the state-of-art facility Health Science Careers Center in Rochester, Minnesota. During the Camp, students will participate in a variety of hands-on and interactive activities and tours. Presenters from Mayo Clinic, Rochester Public Schools, Rochester Community and Technical College, Olmstead Medical Center and more will offer sessions in Nursing, Pharmacy, Labs, Yoga, EMT/G Cross, Hypnosis, Dental, Vet Tech, Surg Tech, Imaging, PT/OT/RT, Medical Illustration, SIM Lab, OMC Tours, and more! The $30 fee for the camp includes a pair of scrubs, lunch and snacks. For students who demonstrate financial need, ten scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis. • Scrubs Camp will be held at the Winona State University campus in Winona from July 26-31, 2009 and will give students in grades 9-12 the opportunity to learn about health-related careers, experience college life, and make new friends. Students will learn about more than 30 healthcare careers through many hands-on activities. The cost for the five day residential camp is $350 but many scholarships are available. ROCHESTER PUBLIC LIBRARY SUMMER READING PROGRAM
Kids of all ages are invited to participate in the Rochester Public Library’s Be Creative @ your library summer reading program. Read for 12 hours (pre-readers may have an adult read to them), turn in a completed reading log, and receive prizes including a certificate for a free mini pizza from Papa Murphy’s. The RPL Children's Summer Reading logs will be available to pick up Friday, May 22. The program ends August 29. HONORS CHOIRS 2009-10 AUDITIONS
Be part of a choir with a reputation for excellence! Audition for our next season! The Honors Choirs of Southeast Minnesota is a regional non-profit organization of four choirs for grades 3-12. This year, our 17th season, over 230 singers came from 23 southeast Minnesota communities and 52 different schools to participate. It’s a unique opportunity for motivated singers to experience artistic challenge and growth as they prepare and perform great choral music.

The choirs rehearse on Sunday afternoons/evenings throughout the school year in Rochester, and each one performs in at least three regular season concerts. In addition, choirs do outreach performances in the region. Next summer, Concert Choir will travel to Italy! Singers pay tuition, and scholarships are available for those with need, including the Honors Choirs Diversity Scholarship for ethnic minority singers.

The choirs are:
Children’s Chorus • for boys and girls in grades 3 through 5
Treble Choir • for boys and girls in grades 5 and 6
Chorale • for boys and girls in grades 7 through 9
Concert Choir • for young men and women in grades 10 through 12

PROJECT GET OUTDOORS
June 16 - August 11, Project Get Outdoors will meet each Tuesday from 1-3pm at Chester Woods for outdoor exploration and nature adventures. Your child will learn Spanish vocabulary including basic colors, numbers 0-10, body parts, clothing, food, greetings, farewells, manner words, and much more! Each class will include a Spanish story, songs, activities, games, snack, free play and a craft. This is a child only class. Registration closes: May 18.

• Parent/Child Spanish Class (ages 2-5). Monday, June 22-Wednesday June 24, 9:15-10 AM at instructor’s home (1985 Hart Dr SW). $35 per parent/child pair; $25 additional sibling with same parent. Your child will learn general vocabulary through games, songs, crafts and hands-on activities. Parents will learn creative ways of reinforcing what has been introduced, and will take part actively in class with their child. Registration closes: June 8.

• Spanish Camp: Session 2 (ages 3-6). Monday, July 13-Friday, Jul 17, 9-10:30 AM at instructor’s home (1985 Hart Dr SW). $70 per child; $55 additional sibling. Your child will learn Spanish vocabulary including unique colors, numbers 10-20, shapes, animals, transportation, greetings, farewells, manner words, and much more! Each class will include a Spanish story, songs, activities, games, snack, free play and a craft. This is a child only class. Registration closes: June 29.



IRONWOOD SPRINGS CHRISTIAN RANCH
Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch, www.ironwoodsprings.com, in Stewartville offers a variety of summer camps. Summer camps will focus on teaching the campers how to grow in their walk with the Lord through the speakers, music, staff, and more!! A great chance to see old friends and make new ones. We require that anyone registering for Ironwood horse camps weigh 225# or less. For the safety of the rider and consideration of our horses this rule will be strictly enforced.

• Junior I – June 29 - July 2nd For boys and girls going into 3rd-5th grade in the fall of 2009. Junior 1 Camp is full of fun and challenging activities. Events include large groups games, Bible devotional times, chapel meetings, cabin times and much more. New experiences provide the basis for personal and spiritual growth while making many great memories.

• Junior I Horsemanship: Sign up for horsemanship while attending camp at Ironwood Springs. Horsemanship includes indoor western riding lessons and outdoor scenic trail rides. Campers will learn about horse behavior, horse care, horse colors and breeds, how to catch and lead a horse, how to groom a horse and more. The week ends with a certificate and a picture of the camper and one of the horses they rode at Ironwood. Picture and video highlights will be included in the closing program. Limit of 60 participants and fills quickly so sign up early!

• Junior II – June 21st-25th For boys and girls going into 6th-8th grade in the fall of 2009. Junior II campers will be challenged to grow in Christ’s likeness. It is our prayer that our theme, “Shine in ‘09” will impact campers while at Ironwood and beyond. Campers should come prepared for tons of fun with the “classics” such as BIFFER as well as new and exciting big games, cabin competition, and great times of praise and worship.

• Junior II Horsemanship: Sign up for horsemanship while attending camp at Ironwood Springs. Campers will have the opportunity to advance in both their riding and education of horses from Junior I camp. Campers will enjoy both an extra day of riding as well as more time with the horses throughout each day of camp!! Don’t miss this great opportunity!! Horsemanship includes indoor western riding lessons & outdoor scenic trail rides. Campers will review and learn more about horse behavior, horse care, colors and breeds, groom, and catching and haltering a horse. Junior II horsemanship participants will also learn how to saddle their horse. The week ends with a certificate and a picture of the camper and one of the horses they rode at Ironwood. Picture and video highlights will be included in the closing program. Limit of 60 participants and fills quickly so sign up early!

• Teen Camp – July 6 - 10th For those going into 9th-12th grade in the fall of 2009. Get ready for a great time of friends, food and fun. Along with BIFFER, intense cabin competitions, big games, and daily devotions, many unique and special events are being planned. You will have a fabulous time building relationships as well as digging into God’s Word. Our speaker and worship team will encourage students to “Shine in 09” after they leave camp and enter their personal mission field of friends, classmates, etc.

• Wrangler Camp– July 6 - 10th For those going into 9th-12th grade in the fall of 2009. A horse intense camp for 20 kids entering 9th-12th grade in the fall of 2009. Even more importantly, campers will be challenged to grow in their walk with the Lord through the speakers, music, staff, and more!! Horse activities will include indoor western riding lessons, outdoor scenic trail riding, grooming, saddling, training demonstrations, leather crafts and more!! All non-horse activities occur with Teen Camp. These activities include chapel time with will be Bible-based messages and worship music. Other non-horse activities include daily devotions and bible studies, intense cabin competitions, big games, fun meals, and more!! The week will end with a horse show for the parents in Castner Riding Arena, a picture with the camp and one of the horses they rode at Ironwood, a certificate, and a T-Shirt.

• Wrangler Day Camp – Beginner – July 13 - 17th For kids going into grades 5-8 in the fall of 2009. The camp will run Monday-Friday (9am-3pm). Lunch will be provided. THIS CAMP IS FOR BEGINNER AND NOVICE RIDERS. Horse activities will include indoor western riding lessons, outdoor scenic trail riding, grooming, saddling, training demonstrations, leather crafts and more!! Non-horsemanship activities will include devotions and bible studies. The week will end with a horse show for the parents in Castner Riding Arena, a picture with the camper and one of the horses they rode at Ironwood, a certificate, and a T-Shirt. Limit of 20 participants.

• Wrangler Day Camp – Advanced – August 3-7th For kids going into grades 5-8 in the fall of 2009. The camp will run Monday-Friday (9am-3pm). Lunch will be provided. THIS CAMP IS FOR EXPERIENCED RIDERS and approval from the wrangler staff will be required prior to registration. Horse activities will include indoor western riding lessons, outdoor scenic trail riding, grooming, saddling, training demonstrations, leather crafts and more!! Non-horsemanship activities will include devotions and bible studies. The week will end with a horse show for the parents in Castner Riding Arena, a picture with the camper and one of the horses they rode at Ironwood, a certificate, and a T-Shirt. SPRING & SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAMS - ADAPTIVE DIVISION, PARK & REC
Park & Rec's Youth Adaptive Division offers a variety of spring and summer activities for youth (ages 3-17) including bowling, Girl Scouts, soccer, choir, swim lessons, and a spring/summer dance. SPRING & SUMMER ADULT PROGRAMS - ADAPTIVE DIVISION, PARK & REC
Park & Rec's Adult Adaptive Division offers a variety of spring and summer activities for adult (ages 18 and older) including choir, soccer, swim lessons, teen scene, horseshoes, and the summer dance. MIRACLE LEAGUE SUMMER SOFTBALL
The Miracle League is an adaptive t-ball/sfotball program for persons 4 years and older with either a physical and/or cognitive disability. Rochester boasts a Miracle Field at the Watson Sports Complex. The field has a rubberized playing surface allowing barrier-free accessibility over the entire field. Bases are painted on the surface so persons with cognitive and/or visual impairments or those using wheel chairs, crutches, or walkers can easily maneuver the entire field without obstacle. Textile Camp: Run with Scissors! 5 day session for grades 3 and up: $210. Monday-Friday, July 20-24 9am-3pm. Create your own art to wear and carry! Gender friendly. This class will include machine and hand sewing, rug-hooking, and all kinds of surface design. Every day is broken into 3 different classes, each with new projects.

Musical Theater Camp: Tom Sawyer! Two-week session: $265. Grades 4-12: Monday-Friday, July 27-August 7, 9am-3:30pm. This two-week camp is a musical adaptation of Mark Twain's classic novel about the antics and adventures of a mischievous orphan. Handbuilding in Clay: Make your own indoor fountain! Five day session: $128. Grades 2-8: Monday-Friday, Aug 10-14; 10am-noon. Bring the outdoors indoors by creating your own tabletop water fountain using clay and inspiration. In this camp you’ll get a lot of time to play with clay—rolling, pinching, stamping, and glazing—and go home with a beautiful fountain.

Preschool Camp: Munchkin Art Camp! Five day session for ages 3-6: $120. Monday-Friday, Aug 10-14; 10am-noon. Children can use all of their senses during this hands-on experience. Painting, clay projects, puppet theater, songs, movement, and snacks in a safe, nurturing environment. The variety of daily activities will spur their curiosity and expand their sense of wonder. S.N.A.P. BUS
The S.N.A.P. Bus, sponsored by Child Care Resource and Referral, offers free, fun summer activities. On the bus there are books available for the children to read with their parent(s) or with one of the SOS volunteers. The bus also carries paint and easels for those that would like to paint. There's lots of different craft supplies (glitter, popsicle stick, tissue paper, sequins, foam shapes) for those that like to glue stuff to paper to create their pictures. For the sports fan, there are balls on the bus, which can be used for a game of kick ball. The SOS volunteers are there to help get the game going and to guide them during their game. • RCTC Basketball Camp - Dale Amy is back for his 18th year as basketball camp director and coach. He has directed and instructed over 60 basketball camps - over 3,000 boys and girls have graduated from his camps! He and his staff proudly teach basketball fundamentals to 4th through 9th grade boys and girls each summer in the awesome Regional Sports Center facility on the RCTC campus. The goal of the RCTC Basketball Camp is to help develop a well-rounded, complete basketball player and have a lot of fun doing it. Our philosophy is to instill in our students the fundamentals of the game along with a proper attitude toward it. We stress confidence, teamwork, effort and sportsmanship which we feel are important ingredients in achieving success not only on the court but also with family, school and life. Students will have instruction in defense, shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding, one-on-one, three-on-three, and team play. Basic and advanced basketball fundamentals and will be stressed. Students will receive individual instruction and video tape analysis by camp coaches. T-shirts, basketballs, trophies and other awards will be given. YMCA Summer Day Camp and the Reading Center’s Best of Basics Summer Program!
Dates: July 6-31st, 2009, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (with free extended care from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.). Ages: students entering 2nd and 3rd Grade. Join this full day program geared toward summer fun and polishing up those language arts skills! Your child will participate in daily camp activities and attend an hourly session with the Reading Center staff. Registrants must attend both programs for the entire four week session. All programs (with the exception of the field trips) are held at the YMCA. A daily snack is included; however, each camper needs to bring a sack lunch each day. The hourly Best of Basics session (four days a week) with specially-trained staff of the Reading Center’s Best of Basics Summer Program, will work with your child at the YMCA, using a multi-sensory teaching approach that has proven to be effective in giving your child a boost toward making a successful leap into the coming school year! After a morning of trapping we will head over to Wabasha for a picnic lunch and a visit to the National Eagle Center where their staff will put on a live Eagle show for our group. So pack a picnic lunch and bring your “eagle eyes” for this fun class and field trip! A 1-day offering for Grandparents and children ages 8-12. Each child must be accompanied by at least one adult. QUARRY HILL SUMMER NATURE CAMP

Quarry Hill Summer Nature Camp is a must do summer activity for many Southeast Minnesota youth age 4 all the way up to high school! These camps get kids outdoors everyday to explore the wonders of nature that surround us. Hiking, fishing, dip netting in the pond, canoeing, rock climbing, bird trapping, fossil hunting… and much more! All of our camp sessions are designed by Quarry Hill staff, feature small groups, and contain a great mix of learning and fun!

Camp sessions begin the week of June 8th and run through the week of August 17th. Our day camp runs Monday through Friday with classes from 9:00 am to 11:30 am and 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm. For older children, we have off-site, all-day or overnight trip options. Scholarships and transportation to Quarry Hill are also available.

Camp will be held Saturday, October 3, 2009, beginning with registration at 8:00 a.m. and will close at 4:00 p.m. There are a variety of emotions and feelings when a young person experiences the death of an important person in his or her life. Campers will have the opportunity to spend time with other children who have had a similar experience and meet with trained grief facilitators who will encourage discussion on loss, grief, healing and new beginnings. Campers will be assigned to age-appropriate groups and will participate in a variety of activities, including: nature walks, crafts, rock wall climbing, music and petting zoo. YOUTH GRAND PRIX SERIES
A series of races offered to youth 18 and under. It costs $5 to join and everybody who participates will receive a certificate, medal, and t-shirt. In addition, there will be awards based on number of races run during the season. The goal is to promote an active healthy lifestyle for young people and emphasize participation more than competition. MED-CITY KIDS MARATHON

TOTAL ARTS DAY CAMP - ROCHESTER ART CENTER
Total Arts Day Camp is a unique and memorable experience for any young artist! Join artists and art instructors for an immersive contemporary art experience. Create art as groups and individuals for traditional and experimental projects. Previous projects included print making, life drawing, public art projects, environmental sculptures, photography, painting, stop-action animation, skateboard art, and more! The focus of the camp is to introduce creative problem-solving, technical skills, and to have fun making art. The last day of each session features a "family and friends" presentation of work and processes done by our young artists.

Sessions fill quickly, so mark your calendars! Each session is limited to 22 students. The grade listed for each session refers to the grade last completed by the student. Introduce preschoolers and kindergarteners to art making in our Kids Art summer sessions. In each session, kids have fun learning the basics of art. Sculpture, painting, mixed media and other projects will encourage creativity and personal expression. Each session is unique; students may sign up for each session for a new and exciting experience. ROCHESTERFEST
This fun, week-long (Saturday, June 20 - Sunday, June 28) citywide festival has a little bit of everything. ROCHESTER CIVIC THEATRE CAMP
STAR 2009, RCT’s summer theatre day camp program, is available to grades 3 and up. One- and two-week sessions available. Both musical and non-musical sessions available. Camp Invention - A hands-on science and creativity day camp so fun, they won't even realize they're learning! SPANISH CAMP
The Language Workshop for Children at Kids' World registration for the 2009 Summer Camp-Like enrichment classes is now open!!! The Language Workshop For Children at Kids' World offers Spanish classes featuring the Thibaut Technique®, invented by Francois Thibaut 36 years ago. The instructor is certified to teach the Thibaut Technique®. This technique teaches Spanish through age-appropriate tools such as vocabulary rich songs, visual aids, action play, structured games, and sentence building exercises in an emotional supportive language immersion classroom. During this summer sessions, we offer Spanish language immersion classes with costume days, snacks, arts and crafts, theme days, birthday piñatas, and more! Immersion gently leads children to acquire Spanish language naturally, start to think in simple sentences, and add substantial vocabulary. MIDDLE SCHOOL PREP PROGRAM
The Middle School Prep Program will be offered June 15-26, 8 a.m. to noon at John Adams, Kellogg and Willow Creek Middle Schools. A one-week program will be offered at Friedell Middle School June 15-19. Enrolling in the Prep Program will give students an opportunity to become familiar with the middle school they will be attending. Brochures will be sent home with all 5th graders in early April. SUMMER OF SERVICE
Looking for a great summer opportunity? Join SOS for two weeks of fun. SOS is a program for youth entering grades 5-12. During each two-week session youth will work on a team of ten helping our community with different service-learning projects. Registration for 2009 Rochester Area Family Y Summer Camp has begun!
• Discover Y Day Camp is open to all children starting 1st-6th grade in the Fall of 2009. Discovery Day Camp runs June 6th-August 31st and is jam packed with fun themes, activities, and field trips.
• Science, Engineering and Technology Camp is for ages 11-14. This program is IBM funded through WFD Consulting. S.E.T. Camp is six different camps in one - Lego Robotics, Musical Instruments, Bridge Design, Environmental Engineering, Advanced Lego Robotics, and Beyond Advanced Legos.
